Abstract

In the era of digital transformation, higher education institutions are increasingly dependent on information technology infrastructure for academic, administrative, and research activities. This shift has amplified the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and effective digital forensics capabilities to safeguard sensitive data, intellectual property, and personal information of students and staff. This paper examines the unique cybersecurity challenges faced by universities, explores advanced strategies for information protection, and analyzes the role of digital forensics in identifying, mitigating, and preventing cyber incidents. Through a case study involving a simulated data breach within a university environment, the study highlights common vulnerabilities and proposes targeted solutions, including the adoption of Zero Trust architecture, encryption protocols, and AI-driven threat detection systems. The findings underscore the necessity for higher education institutions to integrate proactive cybersecurity policies with responsive digital forensics frameworks to ensure resilience in the face of evolving cyber threats.
