Abstract

This article examines gastronomic discourse within the framework of comparative linguistics, focusing on the lexical, semantic, etymological, and linguocultural characteristics of food-related terminology. Particular attention is paid to gluttonyms as linguistic units that convey implicit cultural, historical, and social information. It is argued that food names function as markers of intercultural interaction, reflecting trade routes, political relations, and cultural contacts among peoples. The study synthesizes findings from global and Uzbek linguistics, where gastronomic vocabulary is analyzed through the concepts of linguistic cultural code, culinary lexemes, and food-related phraseology. Special emphasis is placed on English and Uzbek phraseological units involving food, drawing on the works of E.Gashimov, who demonstrates semantic correspondences and divergences between the two languages. The paper also highlights the role of Alisher Navoi’s literary heritage in preserving gastronomic nomenclature of Turkic, Persian, Arabic, Chinese, and Indian origin.
