Abstract

Ensuring equity in special education remains a significant challenge within global education systems, particularly in the assessment and development of speech skills among children with hearing impairments. Traditional speech assessment methods often rely on subjective judgment and limited access to specialized professionals, which can exacerbate educational inequities. This article explores the role of digital technologies in promoting equitable access to speech assessment in special education contexts. Emphasis is placed on technology-driven solutions that enable objective, consistent, and scalable evaluation of speech performance. Drawing on contemporary educational research and the author’s experience in developing digital speech assessment tools, the study examines how computer-based and digitally supported assessment systems can reduce barriers related to geography, resource availability, and individual learner differences. The findings highlight that digital technologies support equity by facilitating individualized feedback, continuous monitoring, and inclusive learning environments. The article argues that integrating digital speech assessment technologies into special education practices contributes to more equitable educational opportunities and strengthens inclusive approaches within global education systems.
